Want to have an excellent seafood lunch with a quirky atmosphere and a view over the big blue sea? Enter the out-of-this-world universe of Biquet Plage at the beach in Leucate. It’s a restaurant and a beach bar, and they sure know how to throw a party. Before the kids finish school and will be home for two months of summer holiday, Chéri and I decided to get out and treat ourselves to a beach lunch.
Little jokes
I just looove to go to Biquet Plage! Everything about this place is cool, without being too hipster or fancy. The decoration is a fun mix between vintage pieces and artwork by local artists and is full of little jokes. At lunchtime, the party hadn’t started… yet. After having made our choice (from a menu presented in a VHS sleeve), we sat back and relaxed while listening to the classic tunes of Jacques Brel.
The best seafood
At Biquet Plage, you can enjoy the best seafood from the region. And, unlike many other beach restaurants, they also offer a set ‘Menu de la Semaine’ (at least during lunchtimes) for 26 euros. Chéri and I both went for this three-course menu as we both liked what was on it. As a starter, we had a velvety vitello tonnato with a fluffy parmesan mousse, which we enjoyed very much. To be followed by a perfectly grilled filet of dorado served on a caviar of eggplant. It was finger-licking good!
Feet in the sand
Food is only served inside (as much as there is an ‘inside’ at a beach restaurant…). But since Chéri and I wanted to have our feet in the sand, we took our desserts to the chill out lounge section on the beach. The dessert was fabulous as well: pannacotta and a scoop of verbena ice cream on a bed of marinated strawberries and rhubarb. We could easily spend a whole day at this wonderful place, watching the sun dip into the aquamarine Mediterranean Sea. Next time we might bring the kids :).
