A few weeks ago, my family and I had a great, uncomplicated lunch at the restaurant of Fort Libéria in Villefranche-de-Conflent. Don’t expect haute-cuisine here, in fact, you might even find it too simple. But we enjoyed the Catalan style food and especially the view on Mont Canigou.
Lunchtime
Chéri, the kids and I wanted to visit Fort Libéria around lunchtime. As it was off-season, the choice of restaurants in Villefranche-de-Conflent was limited. However, the lady at the Fort Liberia ticket office mentioned that it was possible to have lunch at the Catalan restaurant at the fort. Since we already wanted to go there, we combined the two.

Grillade
The choice of what to eat was easy: we all got the lunch menu. The kid’s menu included grilled sausages, chips, a drink and a dessert (12 euros). Chéri had the “menu grillade” (17,50 euros), with a salad as a starter followed by a mixed grill so that he could try a bit of everything. And I choose the “repas Catalan” (13 euros), as I like to try local dishes like the pa’amboli.

Happy full bellies
All the menus included a dessert, except mine, and we all had the same cup of ice cream. Nothing special, but since I always include pictures of all courses, I have also added our simple little dessert into this post. Maybe I should have opted for the cheese platter, but, well, I felt like having ice cream. We all left with happy full bellies, ready to explore the mysteries of Fort Libéria. I wasn’t sure if I would mention this restaurant on the blog, but I decided I would as it is quite a special place to have lunch. You can probably find better food around town, but none with quite the same extraordinary setting!
