
Even though snow is rare in the South of France, we do have many beautiful Christmas markets to get you in the festive spirit. This article will give you an overview of the best ones around in the Hérault department, organised by wine estates, castles and even an Abbaye. Many talented producers, crafters, and artisans share their delicious and creative products so that they can end up wrapped under your Christmas tree. Cracker Fair

The Cracker Fair has been held since 2007 and is known as one of the best Christmas markets in the region. The festively decorated Abbaye de Valmagne hosts about 210 stands with high-quality international and local artists and artisans. You can also have your picture taken with Santa Claus, listen to Christmas carols, or have a bite at one of the food trucks. The entrance fee is 5.50 euros, and it’s free for children under 12 years old.

The interior design shop Comptoir des Explorateurs is always a visual feast and a joy to visit, with the coolest furniture and décor from all over the world. For the third year in a row, they have also curated a Christmas market. More than 45 stands with international food and crafts will brighten up the exterior of the shop, then you can roam the new collection inside. Julianne and her partner just came back from their travels to eight different countries and the shop is bursting with great gems.

There will be around 40 local artisans and lots of fun activities. You can also visit their market garden with farmer Mario- and the castle chefs will prepare a snack menu and sweets to enjoy on the spot.

The Refuge de Saint-Brès will stir up your Christmas spirit with their traditional Marché de Noël Alsacien, as all profits go to help their mistreated or abandoned horses. Besides gift ideas, you can also taste Alsatian specialities (flammekueche!), ride in horse-drawn carriages and marvel at festive illuminations.

And you will be helping hospitalized children, as the Association of La Petite Étoile is their chosen charity this year.

Although the Christmas market at Domaine la Sarabande is small, it has a warm and enchanting ambience. Of course, there will be lots of wine tastings at this winery in Faugères. But there will also be port, gin, sloe gin and bubbles to celebrate the festive season. Along with plenty to eat and drink, you will find about 10 other stall holders with all kinds of unique gift ideas.

Château Les Carrasses in Quarante organises a wonderful annual Christmas market with the elegant 19th-century wine Domaine as the backdrop. Even some of the self-catering residences and the magnificent conservatory transform into local artisan shops, selling unique products. Kids (and parents) can join their farmer Mario to meet and feed all of the farm animals, including star of the show: piglet Elliot.
